Colposcopy with gynecological consultation
Purpose of the study
Colposcopy is an examination that involves viewing the cervical disc, the mouth of the external cervical canal, the vagina and the vulva using a colposcope - a device with an optical set. This is a tool that magnifies the image from 4-50 times. The examination evaluates the spatial structure of the epithelium, its color, arrangement and transparency, as well as the drawing of blood vessels. If the colposcopy image is abnormal, the doctor takes tissue from the suspicious areas for histopathological examination. The additional cost of taking one slice is PLN 50.
The waiting time for the histopathological result is 14 working days.
Colposcopy makes it possible to establish a diagnosis in a matter of minutes, to make appropriate decisions about therapy, or treatment. It makes it possible to detect preclinical forms of cervical cancer or serves as an evaluation after surgical procedures.
Preparation for the study
In the period of several days before the examination, one should not use vaginal medications, have sexual intercourse, perform irrigation or undergo a gynecological examination. Colposcopy is not performed during menstrual bleeding. The examination is painless, without complications, and can be repeated several times in patients of all ages. The patient should report for the examination with a current cytology result with a recommendation for colposcopy.
