Salivary gland ultrasound

Purpose of the study

Ultrasound of the salivary glands is the primary imaging test in their diagnosis. Indications for the examination are enlargement of salivary glands of unknown origin, change in consistency on palpation, salivary gland soreness, and changes in the gland itself or in its surroundings.

The purpose of salivary ultrasound is to evaluate the size of the salivary glands and to differentiate the causes of enlargement (inflammation, tumors, stones).

The result of the test is provided in the form of a description immediately after the test.

Preparation for the study

The test is performed on patients of all ages, can be repeated many times, and is painless. It requires no special preparation.
