Breast ultrasound
Purpose of the study
Ultrasound is a non-invasive method of detecting pathological changes in organs. The indications for the examination are changes in the breast glands, such as those of a nodule nature detected by palpation or diagnosis of changes detected by mammography. Ultrasound is also performed as a preventive examination in young women.
- Detection, evaluation of the location and determination of the size and nature (solid or cystic) of the breast lesion,
- Assistance with localizing a breast lesion while performing a biopsy.
The result of the test is provided in the form of a description immediately after the test.
Preparation for the study
The test is best performed between the 1st and 10th day of the menstrual cycle. It is recommended to provide the doctor with descriptions of previous examinations, including mammography (if performed). The test is performed in patients of all ages, is painless, and can be repeated many times without exposing the patient to harmful radiation.
