Abdominal ultrasound

Purpose of the study

Abdominal ultrasound allows you to evaluate the internal organs of the abdominal cavity. With the help of ultrasound, it is possible to assess the size, shape, structure of organs such as : liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, urinary bladder (if filled).

Indications for abdominal ultrasound are abnormalities in laboratory tests, complaints of pain in the abdomen, difficulty in urination, bowel movements and other disturbing changes in the body. The purpose of the examination is to diagnose the nature of lesions of internal organs.

The result of the test is provided in the form of a description immediately after the test.

Preparation for the study

Before the examination, one should fast for about 6 hours, and on the day before the examination, the diet should be easily digestible. It is advisable to drink 0.5 - 1.0 liter of non-carbonated liquid (water) 1 hour before the examination. It is recommended to provide the doctor with descriptions of previous examinations. The examination is performed in patients of all ages, and is painless. It can be repeated many times without exposing the patient to harmful radiation.
