Gynecological ultrasound

Purpose of the study

Gynecological ultrasound is a non-invasive method of detecting pathological changes in the reproductive organs (ovarian cysts, uterine myomas, etc.). The examination is performed with a transvaginal (vaginal) probe or, in the case of women who have not started intercourse, through the abdominal layers. During the examination, the uterine body, its shape, size and its position in the small pelvis are evaluated. The doctor also evaluates the thickness of the endometrium (that is, the mucous membrane of the uterine cavity at its thickest point) and the dimensions of the ovaries.

The result of the test is provided in the form of a description immediately after the test.

Preparation for the study

For transvaginal examination, the bladder must be emptied.

For examination through the abdominal shell, the bladder should be filled.
